Hello from Voorschoten! It’s hard to believe that in less than two months, we’ve managed to uproot our entire lives and relocate here to The Netherlands. I could say how crazy it’s been, how exhausted I am, how overwhelmed I feel…but honestly, it really wasn’t all that bad.
I was certainly ready to move on to a new career opportunity, and anyone who knows Drew and me knows that we’ve been talking about living over here for quite a while. We also had a lot of help from our parents, and of course little Mira is about as easy and flexible as babies get. In fact, here she is just chilling out in a rest stop somewhere in Germany:
You have to pay to use the bathroom there, but they have really nice baby changing rooms, so we were all feeling pretty good.
The trip itself was a nice, soft landing. We flew into Zurich and spent a lovely few days relaxing at the Switzer-Meehan’s sweet place in Arisdorf. We ate like fat men, drank some really nice wine and kirsch, played with the babies, and just enjoyed life for a while.
A few days later, we packed ourselves up in the ridiculous-looking but very roomy car we rented and drove the 7 or so hours to The Netherlands. Mira pretty much slept the whole way and we only made one wrong turn the entire time.
So while I’m sure you will start hearing about all my trials and tribulations soon enough, for now we are happy and very excited to start life in our new land!
Now if I could just figure out how to say the name of those little donut balls everybody is eating around here…they look delicious.
